Regional Meetings

Auckland

Ian Soffe on the last meeting (20 Aug 2019)

This was written prior to the meeting. (Ed.) "Manukau Institute of Technology have agreed to host the first Auckland meeting. Chris Stott has kindly offered to explain and demonstrate the workings of the Institute's Intranet system. The system includes browser-based applications which access Orace databases on Unix servers, using some online data management and formatting techniques which I found highly interesting, creative and sophisticated. I am grateful to Chris and his colleagues for presenting on this very topical subject, and I encourage you to attend if you are in the greater Auckland region and remotely interested in Intranets, user interfaces, data presentation, data management, or server and network technologies. I believe that topic will be of interest to both technical staff and managers.

We will meet at 6pm on 20 Aug in room NP201, NP block of the MIT's new North Campus, off Gate 11 on Otara Rd (southern motorway to East Tamaki Rd/Otara/Papatoetoe exit, left into East Tamaki Rd, first left into Otara Rd, through the roundabout). A map with directions and details should be enclosed as a liftout in this issue of Uniforum News for the convenience of Auckland members. Please pencil the meeting in your diary and tuck the map in there now!

We intend to start shortly after 6pm with a welcome and introduction, Chris' presentation/demo for an hour or so, followed by Q&A, and general business. One item which I would like to cover is to canvas opinions about potential future topics and technologies, and mechanics such as days/times, venue, methods of publicity, etc. Light refreshments will be provided.

All are welcome (members and non-members) and there is no charge, so please support us and our hosts, by coming along with friends and colleagues, to learn about MIT's Intranet, and Uniforum, and to let us know what you want for future meetings.

For further information or suggestions, please contact me at ian.soffe@uniforum.org, or by phone/fax on (09) 634-6340, or mobile (021) 634-021. I look forward to meeting many of you there."
